Seychelles and ISA Strengthen Cooperation on Solar PV and Renewable Energy Development.

Seychelles reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) during a bilateral meeting between the Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources, Marie-May Jeremie, and the Director General of ISA, Mr Ashish Khanna, held on the margins of the 8th Meeting of the ISA Regional Committee for Africa.

The meeting, held at the Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls, provided an opportunity to discuss Seychelles’ renewable energy priorities and explore ways to further strengthen its partnership with ISA in support of the country’s transition towards greater adoption of solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies.

Discussions highlighted the strong alignment between ISA’s work to advance solar energy globally and Seychelles’ efforts to accelerate the deployment and uptake of solar PV as part of its broader renewable energy and climate objectives.

Particular emphasis was placed on accelerating the adoption of solar PV in Seychelles through technical cooperation, capacity building, access to relevant programmes and the identification of opportunities to scale up solar energy deployment.

Minister Jeremie also reaffirmed Seychelles’ commitment to concluding and signing a Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with ISA, which is expected to provide a structured framework for identifying and pursuing areas of cooperation between Seychelles and ISA, while ensuring that support is aligned with the country’s national priorities.

During the bilateral meeting, the ISA Director General also presented a number of new and upcoming programmesbeing developed by the Alliance. Minister Jeremie expressed Seychelles’ interest in exploring opportunities to benefit from initiatives that could contribute to the country’s renewable energy transition.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Seychelles and ISA to deepen their partnership and translate the country’s engagement with the Alliance into tangible opportunities that can support increased renewable energy deployment, strengthen energy security and advance Seychelles’ climate commitments.

Seychelles currently serves as Co-Chair of the ISA Regional Committee for Africa alongside Ghana. The Regional Committee brought together ISA member countries and partners to advance regional cooperation on solar energy and renewable energy development.

At the 8th Meeting of the ISA Regional Committee for Africa, held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe from the 25th to 27th August, Seychelles was represented by the Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources, Marie-May Jeremie, who presided over the proceedings in her capacity as Co-Chair of the Committee. Minister Jeremie was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Energy and Climate Affairs, Tony Imaduwa.
